Spice up your life

When you begin to eat clean, (removing boxed products and cooking fresh meats and vegetables) it is easy to get stuck in a rut. When i first started, my dinner menu looked something like this: Mon. - Chicken/Veggies/Brown Rice; Tue - the same as monday.; Wed - the same as tuesday, etc. Before you know it, you want to strangle the next person who asks if you want chicken for dinner! It's easy to add variety to your meals. Pick some easy, quick, "go to" meals that you can prepare in a hurry for the weeknights, and on the weekends experiment with new recipes. Stir-frys, fajita style chicken or beef, or baked fish can all be quick, under 30 minute dinners. Use spices to enhance flavor. My favorites are garlic, thyme, cinnamon, rosemary, fajita spices - they can liven up any piece of dull meat. Rotate your grains between brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole wheat pasta; just remember to watch your portion sizes. Invest in a food scale to help you learn proper portions. Add any vegetable you want, eat as many veggies as you want! Just remember to watch the added butter and sauces, they can add a ton of fat and calories. On the weekends, allow yourself a cheat meal on one day and a cheat "treat" the next, maybe a glass of wine or scoop of ice cream. The key is moderation. After all, you need to be able to enjoy life a little! And remember to do some form of exercise each day - walk, jog, dance, plyometrics, jump rope, skip, pop in a dvd - challenge yourself! Will be posting more about fitness soon.........
